National Women's History Month - March 2012

National Women's History Month - March 2012 Diversity Poster & Products

National Theme: "Women's Education - Women's Empowerment"

National Women's History Month 2012 - Poster,Mugs,Bookmarks,Pins,Diversity ProductsJanet Hamlin studies Illustration at the art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where she received an award of excellence and graduated with honors in 1987, and now living and working in New York. Her poster illustrated this year’s theme “Women’s Education – Women’s Empowerment”

The women shown on this poster are responsible for the creation and passage of Title 9, a great leap for women's equality in both federally financed institutions, but also college and secondary school women's sports.

From left to right we see activist Bernice Sandler, Congresswoman Patsy Mink, and Congresswoman Edith Green. Title IX, as we know it today, was passed into law on June 23, 1972. They are on the steps of the Capitol with a group of women supporting for and advocating Title IX.

In 2002 Title IX was renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act, but is still commonly known simply as Title IX.

This law states that:
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance..."
